Miracles in Unexpected Places

10032011-miraclesAnne Thomas is a Church~Aglow Coordinator. Many years ago, Anne served with a powerful Aglow intercessor who had reached the point in her life where she had to enter an Assisted Living Home as she had no family to care for her. At first, her church family visited her faithful, driving her to church. But the ‘new’ wore off and before too long, Anne noticed that her friend’s zeal for Christ and her prayer life had waned.

It wasn’t long before the Lord showed Anne that Assisted Living Homes, Nursing Homes, and Retirement Homes were filled with ‘unlit sticks of dynamite. Those sticks, if lit, could explode in intercessory prayer for the world.

One day, Anne was in McDonalds when an elderly lady who was there with her daughter called out to Anne, “Don’t I know you?” Anne asked if she was in Aglow. No. Church? No. Finally, the lady said, “I know! You visit someone in the care facility where I live!”

Several weeks later another resident called, asking Anne if she would do a Bible study in the same facility. Anne instantly said, “Yes!”

This particular facility houses 10 -12 people, and Anne had to rewrite all the material to make it large print. She was able to find large print songbooks with an accompanying CD.

Anne said, “This has been an extremely fruitful connection. Several of those in the Bible study came to know the Lord before they passed away. An aide, who had been raped as a child and bitter since - doing drugs and even worse – has completed changed. Her life is back on track. She not only attends church, but is speaking to others!”

Anne continued, “The Bible study and the transformation of each life has been a witness to relatives, therapists who visit, and the aides who work there. My heart is touched as we go each week to worship, study, and pray.”

One day there were 7 in attendance. There was a lady with dementia, a lady with Parkinson’s, a man with Alzheimers, another man, another lady, Anne, and her friend from Church who comes to help her. On this day, Anne said, “All heaven broke loose! After two years, the Lord opened their understanding and their hearts to intercessory prayer.”

The man with Alzheimers was as cognizant as could be. All seemed to grasp that we must pray for family, community, and our nation. One of the men prayed for the lady with Parkinson’s to be healed from a lump on her arm.

Then, this same man told the group that he noticed drug exchanges taking place in a house across the street from their facility. Anne was able to encourage him to pray, not to confront. God is using people who society has written off to pray and change communities and our nation. These people were available. They are being ignited to pray.

Anne said, “I’m so excited that there is no age barrier when it comes to taking land. Caleb was 80 when he asked for the mountain. Those attending the Bible study are older. The aide whose life has been changed is 26. God welcomes all into His family and He works through us until He calls us home.”

We encourage you to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as He highlights needs in your community. He doesn’t often call the qualified, but those He calls; He equips and qualifies to do the work. Do what He is asking you to do. You will be glad you did.
